Advancing Sexuality Studies Course
The Advancing Sexualities Studies Course is intended as a training tool to develop the capacity for critical sexuality studies research and scholarship. Academics from across the world have contributed to the creation of the course modules which represent a diverse range of topics and multidisciplinary perspectives. Each module is intended to challenge, promote debate and influence future research, education and practice related to sexuality.
With funding provided by the Ford Foundation, the modules were originally developed by the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), La Trobe University (Melbourne, Australia) and revised/adapted by the IASSCS. In 2011 ASSC was adapted and implemented in 3 distinct regions: South America (Lima, Peru), Asia (Hanoi, Vietnam) and Africa (Durban, South Africa). Between 2012 and 2013 ASSC was developed in South America (Lima, Peru) and the Caribbean Region (Guyana). This was the first opportunity IASSCS had to implement distance learning methods within the ASSC model. All ASSC modules are available in English and some are also available in Spanish.
The long term goal of course delivery is the incorporation of the course and/or specific modules within existing degree programs at participants’ local universities and research institutes.
