The tenth biennial meeting of the International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture and Society (IASSCS) entitled Literacies and Sexualities in Cultural, Fictional, Real and Virtual Worlds: Past, Present, Future Perfect?, welcomed 300 participants from 47 countries. With the generous support from Ford Foundation and HIVOS, IASSCS was able to grant a total of 16 conference scholarships (12 full scholarships and 4 partial scholarships) to participants from 14 countries, in addition to a significant number of registration fee waivers. 9 conference scholarships were granted to participants who identified as female and 7 to participants who identified as male. The conference was co-organized by the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS), at the Dublin City University, Ireland and hosted by Professor Jean-Philippe Imbert.
The ninth biennial meeting of the International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture and Society (IASSCS) entitled "Sex and the Marketplace: What’s Love got to do with it?" welcomed 321 participants from 40 countries. With the generous support from Open Society Foundations, Ford Foundation and HIVOS, IASSCS was able to grant a total of 23 scholarships (12 full scholarships and 11 partial scholarships) to participants from 18 countries in addition to a significant number of registration fee waivers.
The conference was co-organized by the Study Group on Sexualities (GES for its initials in Spanish), at the Instituto Gino Germani, School of Social Sciences and University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina.
The eighth IASSCS conference welcomed 352 participants from 62 countries to Madrid. This conference included special presentations co-organized by the country ministries, including Secretaría de Estado de la Igualdad of Spain; various national and international institutions and networks, such as the Kartini Asia Network and the International Resource Network; and post-conference meetings of the IASSCS Committees, Research and Training and Policy and Advocacy. This conference was co-organized by the Social Anthropology Department of Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain.
The seventh IASSCS conference welcomed to Hanoi 432 participants from 46 countries. The conference was co-hosted by the Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS), the Consultation of Investment in Health Promotion (CIHP), and The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Association (VUSTA).
The sixth IASSCS conference welcomed 305 participants from 42 countries and was hosted by the Unidad de Sexualidad y Desarrollo Humano (USDH), Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and the Centro Latinoamericano de Sexualidad y Derechos Humanos - Brazil (CLAM).
The fifth IASSCS Conference, held at the San Francisco State University, USA was attended by academics, researchers and activists from more than 32 countries. The conference was hosted by the National Sexuality Resource Center and the Program in Human Sexuality Studies, San Francisco State University.
The fourth IASSCS conference was organized around the theme of “Sex and Secrecy”. It was hosted by the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER), the Gay and Lesbian Archives of South Africa (GALA), and The Graduate School for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
The third IASSCS conference attended was held at the University of Melbourne.
The second conference of IASSCS focused on the theme of “Sexual Diversity and Human Rights.” It was hosted and organized in cooperation with the Department of Sociology of the Manchester Metropolitan University. The Conference also launched the Centre for Studies in Sexuality, Gender and Society within the Department of Sociology.
